Association for Mental Health

 

NIAMH, the Northern Ireland Association for Mental Health, provides local support for those with mental health needs in locations across Northern Ireland. A wide range of services are offered including housing schemes, home support, advocacy services, information services, public education and research.

As well as the provision of direct services, raising awareness of mental health issues in the wider community through training and events has been an important aspect of the Association's role since its foundation.

Our Carecall, subsidiary provides counselling, training and consultancy for employers on mental health in the workplace.

InformationOur information section includes fact sheets and articles on a range of mental health issues as well as a useful links to a wide spectrum of organisations working in the area of mental health. Each fact sheet contains a list of relevant organisations offering support for specific problems. Contact details for your nearest Beacon Centre and how to access the services available can be found in the Local Support section.

Clarendon Street Art Group

The Clarendon Street Art Group has produced a strong body of work through the year, a small selection of which is shown below. A larger selection of paintings/prints can be viewed on the Art Group page - new works are added seasonally. If you are interested in purchasing a painting/print please contact the centre directly. Profits will go towards developing and expanding work within the centre.

NIAMH welcomes visit by Michael McGimpsey

The Association was pleased to host a visit by Mr Michael McGimpsey, Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety, at Central Office on Friday, 23rd November 2007. Members of the NIAMH Board outlined the work of the Association to Mr McGimpsey and took the opportunity to raise, in particular, our concerns about under-investment in mental health in Northern Ireland.click for more information

 

Policy document launched at Stormont

'Mental Health Promotion: Building an Economic Case', the third policy document in a series commissioned by NIAMH, was launched at Stormont on 23rd November 2007. The report uses economic analysis to develop the case for greater investment in both the prevention of mental illness and the promotion of positive mental health and demonstrates that the potential scale of economic benefits of preventing mental illness is considerable. Annual Review 2006 - 2007 published

The NIAMH Annual Review, "Creativity And Innovation In Mental Health ", was published in October 2007 and is available for download in PDF format.

This review identifies some examples of the Association’s work in marketing terms, using the categories of market penetration, market development, product development and diversification. As well as a retrospective review of the last year (2006 - 2007) it also gives a hint of new developments to come.

 

Bamford Review of Mental Health and Learning Disability (Northern Ireland)

The Bamford Review closed formally at the Making it Happen Conference held at the Stormont Hotel in Belfast on 31st October 2006. The Review, was set up in 2002 to examine how services for people with mental illness or learning disabilities could be improved. To date it has resulted in seven reports* with another three in the pipeline. Click for more information

NIAMH provides a wide range of services for those with mental health needs, their carers, mental health professionals and other agencies, both statutory and voluntary.
